DESCRIPTION
DELICATESSEN is a piece conceived for non-conventional, outdoor, and heritage spaces, where dance, music, and light seamlessly integrate and merge with architecture and environment.
The project was born during the “Petricor” creation residency, awarded by the IAC Gil Albert on the island of Tabarca, and was later shaped by Juanjo Llorens’ vision of intervening in public and historical sites through performance.
Delicatessen transforms architectural and singular spaces into inhabitable and creative environments through live arts and movement, embracing a performative style. It offers a touch of artistry, imagination, and play, enhancing the history and symbolism of each heritage site where it is performed. Each show becomes a journey through dance, music, and light, inviting the audience to rediscover symbolic landmarks of their cities from an artistic perspective.
Lighting designer Juanjo Llorens, choreographers and dancers Asun Noales and Federica Fasano, and musician and composer Rubén Martínez come together in a unique encounter. Through improvisation, instant composition, rhythm, and the dramaturgy offered by the space itself, they merge with the surrounding heritage, inhabiting it through body, sound, and light.
Delicatessen offers exclusive and original artistic delicacies, as each intervention is unique, adapting to the specific conditions and features of every location and architectural setting. The lighting equipment, provided by the multi-awarded Juanjo Llorens, is fully wireless, preserving the natural beauty of each site. Rubén Martínez uses acoustic instruments, requiring no amplification, and the performance itself is itinerant, needing no fixed installations or cabling.
From the critics:
“An orgy of light, music, and dance — art squared. A celebration of disciplines merging, filling the darkness with light, inhabiting unusual spaces. The choreography of ASUN NOALES stuns us once again. Beside us, among the audience, the magician of light himself, Juanjo Llorens, multiple MAX Award winner, carefully guarding the shadows as the performance unfolds across unexpected corners: starting on the street and ending in the ancient basins where the Clarisas nuns once washed clothes — today transformed into a perfect finale. Water and Tabarca’s inspiration become a poetic thread, recalling island memories and drawing us into its magical places: the Clarisas, the Chapel, the Well of the Cloister, the Patio of the Orange Trees… tearing down walls, returning to origins, immersed in the liquid that cleanses and gives life. Two women, a versatile musician, manual and itinerant lighting, and fixed points where sound and movement meet… For a brief moment, we were transported beyond harsh reality into a hidden, subliminal world, where only pure beauty exists.”Felicidad Alarcón
