DESCRIPTION
Pélvico is a contemporary dance piece that does not shy away from the obvious — instead, it highlights it: a work conceived, choreographed, and performed by women. Not about women, but from within women. A creation rooted in the body, its construction, and its movement. A body shaped by sex that questions its ownership through the lens of gender.
The starting point of Pélvico is biological and anatomical: the particular structure of the female pelvis, which defines a fundamental physical difference between the sexes. The female pelvis is lighter, more delicate in its bony frame, with a pelvic cavity that is circular or oval in shape. Over time, this anatomical trait became entangled in the biopolitical construction of gender.
The notion of “the pelvic” has long transcended the realm of physical structure to accumulate layers of meaning — a complex web of discourses that continue to be shaped by the explicit or latent patriarchal narrative assigning women a specific role in our culture. -
