OTRADANZA
In 2007, Asun Noales founded the OtraDanza Company.
From the very beginning, her work has been rooted in a relentless search for visual and dramaturgical poetics capable of touching audiences on a profound level, creating a genuine bridge between artists and spectators.
The company has toured extensively both nationally and internationally, performing across more than 25 countries and spanning five continents — Europe, North America, Latin America, Asia, and Africa — with a rich choreographic repertoire presented in diverse stage formats.
This itinerant format generates a constant flow of work, interdisciplinary collaborations, and multidisciplinary creations, positioning Asun Noales and her company as a creative hub and a driving force within the cultural and social fabric of contemporary dance.
Artistic Vision & Training
OtraDanza seamlessly combines creative production with periods of research, building a pedagogical path grounded in over 20 years of experience. Through professional training programs like Dansa per a Tots and Proyecto GoOD, the company has become a territorial benchmark for professional practice and a meeting point for emerging generations of artists from diverse backgrounds and nationalities.
Desde 2008, OtraDanza has been based at its artistic residency in L’Escorxador Cultural Center in Elche, inviting musicians, theorists, video artists, students, and dancers to participate in its workshops and laboratories.
In 2023, OtraDanza expanded its scope into academic research, accompanying stage creation in productions such as: Sempere (2023), Romeo y Julieta (2024 and Prometeo (2025). This research has been published in scientific journals, including contributions to the official journal of the National Academy of Performing Arts of Spain.
With a global touring presence, a strong educational mission, and a deep commitment to research and cultural exchange, OtraDanza has established itself as a leading voice in contemporary dance — a bridge between tradition and innovation, pedagogy and performance, local identity and international impact.
ABRIL EN DANZA FESTIVAL
As a cultural driving force, OtraDanza has organized the Abril en Danza Festival since 2012, now running in three cities (Alicante, Elche, Murcia) with the aim of:
- Showcasing and supporting national and international artists.
- Building networks among different cultural institutions across the region.
- Promoting outreach activities — from museum interventions and talks to showcases — fostering the creation of new, engaged dance audiences.
- In 2016, the City Council of Alicante joined the festival, consolidating Abril en Danza thanks to the support of both public and private institutions at regional and national levels.
Since then, the festival has focused its activities on:
- Showcasing dance productions
- Professional training opportunities
- Hosting sector-specific events such as roundtables, meetings, and book launches
- Fostering international exchange
In 2022, the city of Murcia became part of the festival, significantly expanding its resources. Today, Abril en Danza has become a landmark event for both artists and the public, celebrated every year between April and May across the three cities: Alicante, Elche, and Murcia.
